In most cases, we will routinely grant
permissions to perform, permissions to arrange, and permissions
to record (Mechanical Rights permissions), but these permissions
are not always free.
Generally, if you can show us that
(1) You are a non-profit organization
(2) All performers in your group are volunteers
(3) Any proceeds from use of these permissions will not
"inure to the benefit" of any individual or
organization other than the one the permissions are issued to
then we might consider giving these
permissions for free.
But you MUST ASK and receive the permissions before
going ahead with whatever project you contemplate!
Be advised, we will prosecute violators
of these guidelines, because if you violate them, you will be
breaking the law.
We want to make it as easy as possible for
everyone to use our music, and we want to make it as easy as
possible for community, volunteer, and school groups to
rehearse, perform, and record our music. But if there is money
being made, then the people who wrote the music you use deserve
a portion of it. And we aim to see that they get it. It's not
too much, and it's not unreasonable to ask that you help them
sustain their livelihood by earning some money for the music
they write.
